Lauren Bonds, legal director and interim executive director at ACLU Kansas, will be the guest speaker at 7 p.m. Friday during the May meeting of the Hutchinson NAACP in the Alumni Room at the Hutchinson Community College Student Center.

Bonds, a graduate of Hutchinson High School and Duke University School of Law, has represented the ACLU in cases ranging from voter rights cases against former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach and the push for more voter sites in Dodge City. She’s also fought for student free speech rights in Shawnee schools and against workplace discrimination at Spirit/Boeing.

This week, Bonds and the ACLU settled with the state to help Medicaid patients with Hepatitis C access medications that previously had been denied them.

The meeting is open to the public.
