In October 2020, the ACLU of Kansas Legal Team wrote letter to Chief Judge James McCabria of the Douglas County District Court and Chief Judge Patricia Macke Dick of the Reno County District Court outlining concerns about blocking members of the public, including media, from viewing criminal court proceedings sufficiently. The letter called for a balance of public health concerns in the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic and the observance of fundamental constitutional rights of Defendants and of the public.
