We urge you to support HB 2211 as it is a sound policy to allow people to petition the court and to give a judge the discretion to remove the fines and fees that will leads to a suspended driver’s license a for non-traffic safety related offense simply because of their inability to pay.

We urge you to support HB 2270. It eliminates an unconstitutional provision that discriminates against same-sex relationships. The statute as written singles out lesbian and gay youth for harsher prison sentences.

The primary function of this bill is to remove a restriction of warrantless arrest. Current language limits warrantless arrest to agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Given the dubious intent of this bill, the shoddy scientific claims behind it, and the interference into the doctor/patient relationship, we urge you not to pass HB 2274, and to oppose any bills of this kind which use unsubstantiated science to manipulate legislation.

The ACLU of Kansas and our member and volunteer base strongly support implementing election-day registration in Kansas with HB 2092.

Columbus Day elevates a violent moment in history that is part of the cultural erasure of Native Americans. Indigenous People’s Day is a step toward the visibility and representation of nations that have existed long before that moment, and will continue to enrich this country long after.

It is precisely our reverence for the rule of law, liberty, and democracy that moves us to support HB 2018 and HB 2042. We are delighted to see that both bills would remove prosecutorial authority from a state agency that is not equipped to exercise that authority.
