POSITION OVERVIEW

The ACLU Foundation of Kansas seeks up to two Development interns to support our grassroots fundraising efforts in Fall 2026. The ACLU of Kansas is a non-profit and non-partisan organization dedicated to preserving and advancing the freedoms guaranteed by the United States Constitution, including voting rights, immigrants’ rights, LGBTQ+ rights, reproductive rights, and First Amendment freedoms. The ACLU of Kansas is an affiliate of the national American Civil Liberties Union, has an annual budget of approximately $4.5 million, and welcomes the support of thousands of people across the state who value democracy and freedom. Fundraising within this Development internship will focus on data organization and clean-up, donor stewardship activities, and logistical support for donor cultivation activities.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Data Organization. You will prepare data uploads to record donor engagement activities and may perform other data clean-up projects to ensure donor database records are accurate and up to date.
  • Stewardship Actions. You will send handwritten thank-you notes to Kansas donors and may participate in other donor outreach activities.
  • Logistical Support. You will support the Development Manager in preparing for donor cultivation events and/or mailings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in communications, marketing, business, nonprofit management, public relations, political science, or related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and Google Workspace.
  • Professional and courteous interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy when handling donor information and records.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of donors and organizational information.

TERMS OF INTERNSHIP

Each internship is 80 hours (10 hours per week for 8 weeks) to be completed between August 2026 and December 2026. Exact dates and schedule to be mutually agreed upon by candidate and the Chief Development Officer.

This position is hybrid, requiring at least one day in office every week with the option to work remotely on other days. Interns may be based in Overland Park or in Wichita.

Pay is $15/hour (except when candidate seeks internship to satisfy educational credits in a program which prohibits payment).
