Kansas – A new poll finds that 70% of Kansas voters across party lines are concerned about politicians trying to undermine the votes of American citizens and that 71% want officials to prioritize protecting democracy. The research also finds broad, bipartisan, and consistent support for elected officials providing voters with materials translated into the language they are most comfortable using and ensuring eligible citizens are informed of their right to these materials.

“Kansans, like Americans across the country, can see and feel the pressure on our democracy in 2025, and this research shows they expect elected officials to muster political courage, take action, and stand up for some of our proudest citizens,” said Micah Kubic, ACLU of Kansas Executive Director. “Our immigrant neighbors have worked hard to become citizens and contribute to our communities, and they, too, have the right to vote enshrined in the Constitution.”

Johnson County had slightly greater support—75%—than the rest of the state for general efforts to improve access to voting and protect democracy. Support for translated voting materials was even greater in the state's most populous county at 66%, compared to the rest of the state, which landed at 56%. The Johnson County results come as some municipalities such as Prairie Village are considering actions similar to Roeland Park, which recently passed a resolution calling for Spanish language ballots and provided interpreters at the polls.

“Federal law is the floor, not the ceiling,” said Logan DeMond, ACLU of Kansas Policy Director. “Election officials in Johnson County and across the state should meet the moment for our communities on the local and state levels to protect our right to vote. They absolutely can and should work to ensure that eligible voters don’t have to choose between voting in a language they don’t fully understand or sitting out our elections completely.”

The research also found that voters value election integrity, but that the majority do not believe in the claims of widespread voter fraud. Only 13% believe there has been widespread voter fraud in recent elections.

The survey of 600 registered voters in Kansas, conducted by Global Strategy Group on behalf of the ACLU of Kansas, was conducted between September 18 and September 23, 2025.
