Kansas on Tuesday asked a U.S. appeals court to reinstate rules requiring proof of U.S. citizenship from people registering to vote, the latest political battle over stringent identification laws enacted in Republican-led states ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

Judge Daniel Crabtree issued a final summary judgment on July 22, 2016 in the ACLU of Kansas’ marriage equality case. The ACLU of Kansas brought this case to the court in October 2014.

On July 18th, the Topeka Steering Committee with the ACLU of Kansas sent a letter to Topeka's City Manager Jim Colson urging a more robust and inclusive process when choosing municipal judges.

Along with four civil rights organizations – The ACLU of Kansas, League of Women Voters of Kansas, MainStream Coalition and Women for Kansas sent an open letter demanding Kobach rescind his instructions to local election officials.

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach once again isn’t listening, so we need your help. Sign our petition telling Kobach to stop creating confusion in Kansas elections, start respecting the rule of law, stop compromising the secretary of ballots, and ensure that every properly registered voter gets to cast a ballot in all elections!

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court issued the most important women’s reproductive rights ruling since 1992.

On Thursday May 12th, the ACLU of Kansas submitted opposition testimony to proposed changes to K.A.R. 28-17-20, an administrative policy which relates to the process for making changes to birth certificates.

 A bill has been introduced in the House Committee on Elections  that would finally allow Kansans to register to vote the day of the election. This could be a tremendous step forward for voting rights in Kansas, but Kansas lawmakers need to know this is what their constituents want.
