27 news got in touch with Micah Kubic, the director from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Kansas. He shared with us how this court ruling will help Trump enforce his agenda, including ending birthright citizenship.

Alina Matejkowski operates the ACLU of Kansas’ social media platforms as the digital communications specialist. She discussed a new legal reform work and immigration advocacy folks can lend help to. She said the organization also serves as a resource.

Some of the more than 15 organizations anticipated to be present include Lawrence Tenants, Lawrence Sanctuary Alliance, Lawrence NAACP, PFLAG, Food Not Bombs and the ACLU of Kansas, Donnavan Dillon, Lawrence/Topeka organizer for Loud Light, said via email.

"Our clients and every Kansan should have the freedom to make their own private medical decisions and consult with their doctors without the intrusion of Kansas politicians," said D.C. Hiegert, an ACLU attorney, when the lawsuit was filed.

Evan Altman, a voting rights organizer for the American Civil Liberties Union, spoke to the Barton County chapter of Women for Kansas via Zoom last Sunday.

Last month, a coalition of LGBTQ advocacy groups, including the ACLU, and families filed a lawsuit, hoping to stop the Kansas law from being enforced.

The Kansas ACLU represented five transgender Kansans in the case. In a statement, the organization said, "The Kansas Court of Appeals' decision is clear in upholding the rights of transgender Kansans to have their gender markers changed on their driver's licenses.
