Creating procedures for mental health before trial

SB 448 aims to safeguard the rights of individuals with mental health concerns facing municipal charges, offering potential avenues for essential care. Despite our endorsement of SB448's efforts to address shortcomings within the existing system, it's crucial to acknowledge that its far from a cure-all for the wide range of concerns where pretrial detention and mental health intersect. While we support this bill, we urge the committee to consider enhancing the bill to more substantially address issues in our criminal legal system.
