To: Johnson Co. Election Commissioner Fred Sherman RE Voter Language Access

On April 16, 2024, the ACLU of Kansas, Advocates for Immigrant Rights and Reconciliation – Kansas City, El Centro, Equality Kansas, League of Women Voters Johnson County, Loud Light, National Council of Jewish Women Kansas City, The Voter Network, and the Voter Rights Network of Wyandotte County sent a letter to Johnson County Election Commissioner Fred Sherman urging his office to take a number of steps to improve access for voters in the county.

These steps included making locally produced materials, online content, printed materials at in-person voting sites about Johnson County elections available in Spanish, as well as providing Spanish-language ballots, sample ballots, and other materials available at polling places and through the advance voting process. Providing translated election materials is a simple way to expand access to the vote, and local election offices have the authority to make it happen.
