Emily joined the ACLU of Kansas in June 2018 as Development Associate. Previously, she worked with the Volunteer Attorney Project at Legal Aid of Western Missouri, coordinating cases in which volunteer attorneys provided free civil legal assistance to low-income individuals.
Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, Emily moved to the Kansas City metro area in 2015 to serve with AmeriCorps VISTA, a national service program whose mission is to eradicate poverty in the United States. It was then that she discovered her passion for changing systems (in education, criminal justice, housing, etc.) which implicitly value the rights of certain populations over others.
Providing administrative support to the ACLU’s Development team, Emily is inspired by the generosity of donors who seek to preserve democracy in the state she’s proud to call home.
Emily spends her free time volunteering with the Urban Neighborhood Initiative, engaging with sisters through the Greater Kansas City Alpha Phi Alumnae Chapter, and performing with the all-female theatre troupe Rogue Betty’s.
