On May 31, 2018, the ACLU of Kansas sued the Shawnee Mission School District for censoring student protests and violating students' free speech rights.

On March 18, 2018, the ACLU of Kansas filed a complaint against the Spirit Boeing Employees' Association (SBEA) for racial profiling and religious discrimination against Munir Zanial, a dues-paying member of the organization.

The ACLU of Kansas filed a class-action lawsuit against the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Kansas Division of Health Care Finance, challenging the policy of restricting treatment for Hepatitis C for Medicaid patients.

On October 11, 2017, the ACLU and the ACLU of Kansas filed a lawsuit against the state of Kansas over a state law that requires that any person or company that contracts with the state submit a written certification that they are “not currently engaged in a boycott of Israel.”

The ACLU filed a lawsuit challenging Kansas’ dual voter registration system, charging it violates the Kansas Constitution and state law. The dual system prevents qualified Kansas voters from voting in state and local elections due solely to their method of registration.

The ACLU of Kansas successfully challenged Kansas' "proof of citizenship" law, where citizens are forced to produce a birth certificate or passport or other onerous document, as a violation of federal law.

Heather Baker was driving home from work when a Johnson County Deputy Sheriff stopped and ticketed her for flashing her headlights to warn on-coming drivers of the speed trap. On November 24, 2015, the ACLU KS sent a demand letter to the city prosecutor asking that the case be dismissed.

On April 28, 2016, after receiving no response from Sheriff Figgins, the ACLU-KS along with cooperating lawyers from the Social Justice Law Collective filed a class action suit challenging the Wilson County Jail’s postcard-only mail policy.
